Conditional cooperation has the most potential for increasing the amount donors. This involves making people aware that other people are cooperating which would motivate and encourage non-donors to donate, which can be achieved through social media. This has been successful in opt-in organ donation

Results:
-Asian, Black, mixed-ethnic or White background donors had greater trust in NHSBT than non-donors
-Black people have less trust in the NHSBT, NHS, individuals and outgroups and higher conditional distrust than white people
-Men have more trust in the NHS and Staff and Individuals than women

A study was taken first by comparing the results of trust between donors and non-donors and then between ethnicities, age and gender were included. There were 6 domains of trust that were focused on. These were the NHSBT, NHS and staff, Individuals, Conditional distrust, Politics, and outgroups

Historical scandals, such the Tuskegee experiments (1939) and the Windrush scandal (2018), caused distrust within communities towards the state by targeting African Americans, depriving them of healthcare and targeting Caribbeans by depriving legal rights, threatening deportation respectively

Trust is the firm belief in the reliability, truth, or ability of someone or something while distrust is the opposite of that. Distrust is the main reason why there are a lack of ethnic minority blood donors in the UK

Sickle Cell Disease is an inherited haematological disease that causes sickle-shaped RBCs due to abnormal haemoglobin. Blood transfusions are used as a treatment as they provide healthy RBCs, allowing more efficient transport of oxygen, corrects anaemia and reduces the effects of sickling

Black populations are a minority in the UK that are important donors. Their blood has more Ro blood antigens than other ethnicities and helps to treat Sickle Cell Disease which is more common in black populations. It’s vital that the blood is compatible during a transfusion, both having Ro antigens

Ethnic minorities are ethnic groups that live where the majority are a different ethnicity. In the UK, this includes Black, Asian and mixed ethnicities living in a majority white country. Collectively, ethnic minorities make up <5% of all donors in the UK, despite representing ~14% of the population
