Congrats, Momoko @prunus-persica123.bsky.social and all! Excited to see how our former postdoc's work unfolded the mutual inhibitory mechanism bet/w EPFL2 peptide hormone & auxin underpins the intervals of auxin maxima 🌿🔬🥳

Why plant embryos do not differentiate stomata? Discovery of the key peptide hormone. Embryo-specific peptide EPFL8, perceived by ERECTA, inhibits SPCH in a TMM-independent manner. Excellent work by the Torii Lab alumnus, Prof. Xingyun Qi. Congrats🌱🔬!

Big thanks to Frank and the TSL receptor crews for
organizing such a FANTASTIC meeting in beautiful Edinburgh! Nice to get to know the people and learn about their exciting science. So honored to share history of plant peptides & receptors in development, and some future directions🌱🥰 #PPRM2025

Hyemin unraveled the mechanisms of heterodimeric partner selectivity among the stomatal master regulatory TFs, their biological significance, and manipulation by small molecules. She is an award-winning confocal microscopist🔬🌱-Congrats, again!

Congratulations, our one-and-only grad student, Dr. Hyemin Seo @texasscience.bsky.social for the successful thesis defense with flying colors 🎉🍾🌱🧬🧪! We are so proud of you🥰

One of the best parts of the conference at the university campus - Catching up with a Torii Lab alumnus, Prof. Daniel Sloan at CSU 🐏!
Dan joined the Torii Lab 20 years ago as a fresh college graduate- he chromosome walked to the MUTE locus, a master regulator of stomatal differentiation 🥰🌱.

Truly honored and humbled (and genuinely surprised) to be the 2025 IPGSA @ipgsa2025.bsky.social Silver Medalist along w/ the eminent plant biologists, John Bowman and Jenny Russinova. Thank you. Plant peptides rock!! 🥰

Our latest! K63-polyUb of the ERECTA receptor kinase by PUB30/31 is required for the ligand induced receptor endocytosis for stomatal patterning. Our results show that ERECTA signals at the PM. Congrats, Liangliang, Minh & the team🌱!

It took long time. I'm truly grateful how the story turned out. As a starting PI, my then outstanding postdoc, now Prof. Elena Shpak @elenashpak.bsky.social and I did a bunch of domain studies, like our first publication from the lab. Attached is the signaling model back then. Pretty empty 😆!!
January 23, 2025 at 8:53 PM
This project started 2000s, we made ERECTA C-term deletions, some conferred hyper stem/pedicel elongation. Back then, we didn't know the identity of the ligands, co-receptors, inhibitors, cytoplasmic signaling components or TFs. As such, we could not tackle the mechanism behind hyperactivity.
