One explanation I can think of, amongst others, is it goes back even before the Revolution, with extreme deeply-rooted generational prejudices.

Not alone, but let's not forget that ~45% of "Americans" don't care and don't want any government at all. If anything they get a kick out of it. Cheeto Benito doesn't care either. There's no logic in it and again, whenever we get enraged, this ~45% just laugh and get more powerful.

Yes, I know MAGA-likers from an Australian perspective. The sense I got was, "don't care" or "isn't it beautiful?" It is scary. From what I see going on in the US, the attitude is not much different. They probably know what will hit them, but they think it's beautiful, because... because.
