Some red states make it impossible to do paper audit, using e-voting machines with no paper receipt. This is purposely done to allow GOP to cheat with the e-voting system (by vendors that GOP fascists own, of course). ES&S especially. Data scientists can still show statistical red flags

The audit must be paper ballots, not ballot images which are digitized and can be manipulated. One of Elon's hacker bros started a company to do "ballot correction", and is used in many states to scan and "correct" ballots automatically. Of course, if you can "correct", you can also fake it
