Hey, y'all know I'm not the one for speeches or statements unless the topic is poetry or spaceships. But this situation has made me sick to my stomach and solidified some of the thoughts and feelings I've been holding about former staff. This call for unionization is coming from a minority of voices without the input of some of our Black staff members. For years, I have witnessed a former staff member openly disrespect leadership, specifically Black women in leadership - Black women in leadership in this organization and others - using tactics including but not limited to verbal abuse and physical aggression. I've watched him weaponize other people's identities to further his agenda. His agenda is unclear to me, still. This situation is not new and Black women have historically been the "fall guy" when organizations and movements need someone to blame for their collective or personal shortcomings. APTP IS NOT ANTI UNION. I personally belong to a Union and actively participate in that union. Many of our introductions to what collective power can look like was in and beside unions. I would ask anyone who is in support of the APTP Workers Union's Instagram page/pages to ask them questions. Especially as they are asking you to mobilize and support them. I would also ask you to take a look at the statement APTP put out. I would also ask you to think about the history of APTP and the way that we have supported and continue to support the community especially when being attacked by the state and from other organizations simultaneously. Also, remember the times when we got it wrong and took accountability for those wrongs.
