in 1968 sottsass designed the prettiest manual typewriter ever released (imo), the Olivetti Valentine. this is one of my holy grail things to get someday.

(for his part, sottsass later disliked the valentine and said it was a failure bc he wanted it to be cheap and disposable, not just art)

great quote here. shoplifting is also a crime of convenience in the sense that it goes WAY down when you have no self checkout and have to have a worker scan everything. target just makes a shrewd calculation that THAT costs more in benefits than they lose in non-wage theft

using this playlist mixer in musicbee gets me a really nice "radio" mix. "969 explicit try 1" is a playlist dumping ground of any track i could ever want to hear, while "heavy rotation" is the 150ish songs i wanna hear more often

the success of a former rapper who still wears Mad Men-esque skinny ties in 2025 bc they were in style when he was 23 (which, though off trend, is still more "recent" than anything other politicians wear) mismatched with wider lapels is the biggest political win for Millennial Cringe in my lifetime

believe it or not another piece of public art from the 80s that attracted controversy at the time for somewhat similar reasons at the time is Maya Lin's Vietnam veterans memorial in dc. Reagan admin official and later Virginia democratic senator Jim Webb called it "a nihilistic slab of stone".
