Definitely true. I forgot zazlav being appointed ceo was to help facilitate a buyout. And as much as I’ll complain about this merger with Netflix, at least it’s not someone like paramount/skydance.

I do very much value going to the movies lol. You’re right though. Saying this is the end of theaters might be jumping the gun a little far, but definitely something to at least pay attention to imo
December 6, 2025 at 9:42 PM
Yeah that’s the question though. How much is enough to do that? And say Netflix continues there corporate consolidation to continue this trend? We both know they would love it if you had to go to a Netflix owned streaming site to watch your movie. I just see the road ahead and I don’t think its nice
December 6, 2025 at 9:37 PM
Even that makes me a little sad though. I live in a smaller area with very few movie theaters and have seen personally drive ins, and movie theaters close or struggle to stay open after Covid. So that’s where those fears come from lol
December 6, 2025 at 9:35 PM
Well I kinda got to it earlier but my theory was if enough smaller theaters couldn’t afford to stay open, it would make it so that theatrical releases made less money for all studios, incentivizing the other studios to hard pivot to streaming again and be almost like a domino effect on the theaters
December 6, 2025 at 9:33 PM
Also, a hypothetical that they themselves experiment with constantly and they are doing it right now with stranger things
December 6, 2025 at 9:30 PM
The problem is this change could mean movie theaters might close, I care because I like going to the movie theater lol
December 6, 2025 at 9:27 PM
Actually we don’t even know if it will be reduced. I don’t actually know if they’ve even come out and said that, but the discussion was always about IF they were to do that
December 6, 2025 at 9:25 PM
No one’s denying Disney is a larger movie studio. But you act as if Warner bros wasn’t just sold for 82 billion fucking dollars on just what their films and streaming have to offer. To deny they have impact on the theater industry is laughably naive
December 6, 2025 at 9:24 PM
I’m not doing research twice to prove to a random on the internet that the third largest movie studio on the planet makes up a large chunk of profit for movie theaters. I think you can do that on your own
December 6, 2025 at 9:21 PM
Yes to prove to you that these studios obviously make more profit by having movies in theaters compared to direct to streaming. Which would also mean that movie theaters would earn more money in the process, so it makes more sense to keep longer theatrical windows for movies
December 6, 2025 at 9:17 PM
Old movies and smaller indie projects don’t make as much money as a fucking WB film
December 6, 2025 at 9:14 PM
That specifically matters because they are the third largest source of income for movie theaters, if you cut that off, that’s a significant amount of profit that can be earned. Which might force smaller theaters to close since that can’t afford to stay open
December 6, 2025 at 9:13 PM
Well either way all we can do it wait and see
December 6, 2025 at 9:12 PM
A drop so natural, almost as soon as they delayed when movies got sent to streaming they miraculously started making more money in theaters. Crazy how that works. Almost as if people just want to watch the movie, they don’t care where they watch it
December 6, 2025 at 9:12 PM
You’re right we don’t know how they’ll be impacted specifically, but we do know it means theaters wouldn’t earn as much money from WB films. So even if they are only the third largest source of profit for that company, they will still be earning less income, which could lead to closures
December 6, 2025 at 9:10 PM
I understand that theaters closing during the shutdown means they can’t host movies obviously smartass, but you forget that they continued the straight to streaming for over a year after the shutdown while also having theatrical releases, which led to a huge drop off on theatrical sales
December 6, 2025 at 9:08 PM
Yes obviously
December 6, 2025 at 9:05 PM
Because when we’re talking about how much money a movie theater will make off of a movies release, bring up how much the film made for the studio can help with that
December 6, 2025 at 9:05 PM
Warner bros at least tried to give movies limited theatrical releases so they could earn some money
December 6, 2025 at 9:04 PM
They didn’t sell movies, they sent them straight to streaming. So did Warner brothers
December 6, 2025 at 9:03 PM
Also I’m not talking about studios suffering from this merger, I’m talking about the movie theaters who would suffer
December 6, 2025 at 9:02 PM
That’s funny, because I’m pretty sure Disney didn’t make a profit on streaming until last year. Meaning they didn’t turn a profit on those movies they sent straight to streaming. Meanwhile, they have since abandoned that and have been making a profit. I wonder if there’s a connection there
