Even in state legislatures, where the number of women rose to a new high as a result of #Election2024, the net gain in women’s representation was smaller than the gains resulting from elections in 2018, 2020, and 2022.

95 (52D, 41R, 2NP) women serve as statewide elective executives, holding 30.6% of all offices. This falls below the 99 (54D, 43R, 2NP) women holding statewide elective offices on Election Day 2024 and the record 100 (54D, 44R, 2NP) women serving as statewide elective executives by the end of 2024.

#Election2024 marked the 1st time since 2010 that the number of women in Congress dropped as a result of a regular election.

D congresswomen increased slightly in the House and Senate, while R women decreased in the House and held steady in the Senate from Nov 24 to the start of the 119th.

My latest report for @cawp-ru.bsky.social breaks down how women fared in #Election2024, analyzing women's candidacies & outcomes in congressional, statewide, & state legislative contests overall & by party and race/ethnicity.

TL/DR: Progress is not inevitable.
