Fair housing has been on the chopping block for the Trump administration since its early days. Here's a look into how last month's round of HUD layoffs might impact Michiganders, as well as some new statistics on what kinds of housing discrimination the state is seeing.
Although the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Region 5 office, which covers Michigan, avoided recent layoffs, fair housing advocates say the cuts elsewhere will still weaken enforcement against housing discrimination nationwide.

Spent this morning at the Michigan Hall of Justice (my first time there!) covering a novel case in the Court of Appeals on the habeas corpus rights of seven chimpanzees currently at a zoo on the Upper Peninsula. They're seeking an order to show cause, which would let the case be heard fully.

In case you were wondering... we did not leave by midnight. But a general omnibus budget bill, an education omnibus bill and a marijuana tax that was key to the governor's roads funding plan all passed in the early hours of the morning.
