What's clumsy about it? Its exactly like bsky in terms of you make a post and people can follow you and you can follow others. Only clumsy thing was following people in other servers of the federation, which bsky doesn't have that issue yet due to the lack of communities making their own servers.

I could care less, but if it isnt truely decentralized why are people using that as the reason they switch?
December 23, 2024 at 8:08 PM
When the reasons for people i follow switching is it being decentrialized compared to twitter. (Since both sell your data to make a profit and fund themseleves. Only think BS doesnt do is serve AD, but that will change once their board members figure out how much more money thry can make.)

If you instances posts can be see on bsky.app yes.

Also unlike most people, I dont use social media to socialize, I use to to get a feed from people I follow, which twitter, mastodon, BS all do well. (Yea, facebook sucks for this. Dont use it.)

The biggest reason so many people moved is BS paid some large (like millions of followers) accounts to move over in the invite only phase.

I dont understand why people are chocing a platform that funding module is to sell your data instead of use ADs.
December 23, 2024 at 3:45 PM
Personally, not selling my private data and everything I post here, would be a start. (They dont even give a list of who they are selling it all too, could be OpenAI or some other AI company for all we know.)
December 23, 2024 at 3:31 PM
I am here because people I follow keep jumping from social media to social media, first they were on twitter, then mastodon and now here.
December 23, 2024 at 3:23 PM
And what about mastodon (same deceneralization as bsky but existed first) whats you opinion on it.
December 23, 2024 at 3:14 PM
If bsky.social goes down all other instances lose every post, that they could be displaying from any bsky.social user.
December 23, 2024 at 3:12 PM
Additionally, if any node of the federation goes down, everyone on the node (accounts, posts, everything about the user) disappears across the whole federarion, based on bsky's own docs that say the users full data is stored.
December 23, 2024 at 3:03 PM
Also bluesky has full rights to sell your data not matter what server you use to host it (according to the privacy page, if you 'decentralized' host talks to bsky itself they can see anything that comes over.) Just like any other soical media.
December 23, 2024 at 2:55 PM
Thats still quite centeralized because if it(any other centrailized node in the federation you moved your account to) goes down you lose everything. (Plus you passing your pasaword data around to where ever you log in thru, sounds like security hell.)
