Yes, I did wonder about that. My own sense from my years as Dean is that most leaving by 68 but small number who go beyond 70/71 mark are there for the long haul (retiring in their 80s).

Don’t have the breakdown for McMaster, but our Salary Statistics may suggest trends. Percentage of Full professors has not changed 2023-25 vs 2000-01. Average age of full professors now 59.2 vs 53. But average years at university, however, just up 21.8 vs 20. Later career starts?

Excellent news! Stable is good; improvement even better. The range of specific and targeted treatments now available is impressive. Glad the journey is going better than expected. May it continue that way.

Meanwhile, at the Lightfoot and Wolfville winery with a Halifax friend…it won out over Georges Island because nearby Gaspereau Fibre is closed the other two days of our visit. Fabulous shot, Shirley, on a fabulous summer day. Hope to get there soon.

I know I am not one of the beautiful people, but is this a trick question? Isn’t v 1 no 1 published October 1931?

It may have been chilly for our field trip, but at least we could see…and breathe. We didn’t formally discuss western wildfires. #CHESS2025

Lovely photo of the Cotton Factory in Hamilton. I wonder what soundscape should go with it? Thanks for sharing the photo Samira. Great to meet you.

Some people have plaques on trees at McMaster. I have a plaque and label on this gorgeous university community canoe, thanks to Wayne Terryberry et al, and my wonderful colleagues in the History department at McMaster. A terrific retirement gift.

Quite right. We wouldn’t wish someone with diabetes or epilepsy a quick recovery. Nor would we talk about “fighting” those conditions. We can wish them effective treatment and management, with few negative side effects, which is what I wish for all those living with cancer. Including you, and me.

My loyalties are not divided. I’ll be voting for a strong NDP candidate in my riding, Robin Lennox. Someone interested in humbly serving marginalized communities, not in grandstanding. @robinlennoxmd.bsky.social #onpoli #yhm
