I had the same feeling last time I went to Oxford. But also looked at the shiny new humanities building and just felt so relieved that at least someone is investing in this.

I always have a rant about this when I mention berserkers too. At first it sounds fun, but really it’s such a boring tendency to link any kind of difficult-to-explain belief or behaviour to mushrooms!

Metal detecting has completely transformed what we know about it Viking Age England in the past few decades BUT only because the information is accessible! Objects’ significance/value can’t even be determined without that collaborative project of figuring out what it all means in the big picture
