When Truman left presidency, he had no income or support of any kind from the federal government other than his army pension of 112.56 a month. After 50 years of neoliberalism, we are used to use money buy anything, including political campaigns. Then we have Trump presidency now.

I am thinking why US is repeating this mistake over and over mentioned by George Kennan: This whole tendency to see ourselves as the center of political enlightenment and as teachers to a great part of the rest of the world strikes me as unthought-through, vain-glorious and undesirable.

People are puzzled by the changes from Regan to Trump: a US Fuji was fighting for liberty, democracy, communism to a US is embracing dictatorship, limiting freedom of speech. This is the fateful paradox of neoliberalism: an ideology started from fighting for liberty but ended up in dictatorship.
