I’ve sat with KEEPER for many days, listened to the score in isolation, and I really dig this film. It has stayed on my mind. Tatiana Maslany is amazing and the imagery is creepy and interesting. I am all for Osgood making weird little films in his spare time.

NIGHTMARE ALLEY (2021, Vision In Darkness and Light) is absolutely the definitive modern noir classic and no one is doing it like @realgdt.bsky.social. It’s captivating from beginning to end, gorgeous to look at, and the acting is sublime. A dark & haunting tale beautifully written & directed.

I wish ya’ll got hyped for Guillermo like you get hyped for certain prestige directors not-to-be-named. Anyway, happy FRANKENSTEIN release day. This film is incredible and GDT is the maestro of cinema.

STOKER (2013) rewatch. This one is incredible. Park Chan-Wook’s directing chops are in full force. The three leads give performances that should have buried them in awards. It’s beautiful, gothic, sexy, disturbing. And it totally sticks the landing.

Had to rewatch CRIMSON PEAK. It gets better every viewing. Five stars.

Maestro Guillermo Del Toro is at the top of his craft w/ FRANKENSTEIN. Lush colors, great score, incredible cinematography, phenomenal acting. Issac is complex & fierce. Elordi is sublime. It’s a gift that we can see this work of art, a gothic masterpiece, on the big screen and you absolutely must!

Movie 2 of tonight’s Alamo Halloween marathon: FRANKENSTEIN. I am so stoked. 🎃
October 31, 2025 at 10:50 PM
Doing what I am calling a mini “catch-up” Halloween marathon today at the Alamo to see some newer films. First up was SHELBY OAKS. Have many friends involved with this one and it was therefore rad to see on the big screen and support them.

I love Atticus Derrickson’s score for BLACK PHONE 2.

Kurosawa’s PULSE (2001) is captivating and extremely melancholy. It is hauntingly beautiful. A vibe. We should have listened to its warnings about the internet. One of my favorite discoveries of this year.

Now seated for BLACK PHONE 2 from my pal @crobertcargill.bsky.social. Nothing much cooler than having a beer in hand to watch a rad film at an Alamo Drafthouse! This will be round 2 since I saw the film’s world premiere in Austin! Pictured below is a poster and my date that I found in the lobby!

I love rewatching THE GUEST (2014), especially in October.

Now seated for TRON: ARES in real IMAX. 🤩
October 12, 2025 at 8:14 PM
The final & 6th film of my marathon was SMILE 2 (2024). This is a modern horror masterpiece absolutely firing on all cylinders from the opening oner to the insane ending. Parker Finn is the real deal and Naomi Scott delivers an unforgettable, emotionally complex, absolutely unhinged performance.

Movie #5 of my fest was HELLIONS (2015). This underseen Halloween night gem is directed by Bruce McDonald of PONTYPOOL fame. I was lukewarm the 1st time I saw it but now love it. The imagery/score/color/production are undeniable. Surreal fairy tale vibes abound. Chloe Rose is an outstanding lead. 🤘
October 12, 2025 at 12:39 PM
4th film of my horror fest was VENOM (2005). This is an EXTREMELY 2005 Bayou slasher with franchise aspirations. But I believe it was a one and done. The snake VFX was distracting and a lot of characters were awful. But the last act was kind of solid.
