Former councilmember. Social impact consultant. Rescue dog mom. Opinions are my own 🤓
And a father/daughter trend? Note the part where PD admits there's no formal process for review of overtime 🤯

If this isn't abuse of public resources, I don't know what is.

Major props to Keyan Bliss and @maivangsacramento.bsky.social for keeping this issue on the front burner for so long

"[Halcon] said the county isn’t doing enough to focus on 'upstream measures' to prevent it."

I'm sorry - but how exactly is this system not broken?

"Halcon said the longer someone is homeless, the harder it is to get them 'out of that situation.' What would make 'more impact' in securing permanent housing would be pushing 'prevention up and more affordable housing at the back end,' she explained."

Many of those who kept coming to Council to defend him benefitted from these tactics. This article is only one piece of the puzzle...

In the end, no one public official should have this much authority without public oversight. Period.

Let's start the conversation on how to fix this before the next person takes the job.

I'm still anti Strong Mayor, bc I don't think politicians should run bureaucracy (case in point: Trump)

But that doesn't mean there shouldn't be serious consideration to charter changes

For one example, subject the City Manager to the Brown Act, forcing updates to Council to be given in open mtgs
