It's amazing to me that we went from the tea party to literally taxing our own tea in 10 years.

The role that the Bible plays in public discourse is for people to pin their dumb ideas on God. #exvangelical

When Solomon has to figure out how to be kind he goes to the young men and they tell him he just needs more "masculine energy" and it breaks the country in half. I feel like some people today need a Bible lesson.

Going to need this prayer as long as lunatic billionaires are running the show.

It's legitimately upsetting to see the way people justify horrible acts by those who are on "their side", I just want a world where everyone is held to a higher standard. Self-reflection is a hard task, but some people don't even seem to be trying.

Just a reminder, that 2 Chronicles says the wisest man in history prayed that God would bless the foreigners who came to his nation because of its greatness. It's almost like most Christians have never read the Bible.

Imagine the most stuffy, teetotaling preacher you can image having to talk about this verse. The book of Song of Solomon revels in getting drunk with your "sister" and having sex. In defense of the author, I'm not sure they intended a literal sister.

I think it's safe to say that Paul's vision of a united Christianity has failed. It's hard to be sad though, when the people who want to "unify" Christianity seem to want to do it by force.

Pick-up lines: Bible edition.

"You will know them by their fruits" and yet we still see record sales of celebrity pastor Bibles published in the name of men who were abusive and unrighteous and we praise immoral men as long as they say what we want.

It's clear to me that the average Christian is devoted more to wealth than God. There's no end to the evil we will commit if we think that somebody else is getting more than their fair share.

Most of what is given to churches goes to paying staff, building projects and in some cases huge investment portfolios. What would change if people actually gave to the poor instead of "giving" to have more comfy chairs?

The reason people use proof texts for their theology is because it's possible to make the Bible say whatever you want and as long as people want to agree with you, they won't care.

May God do likewise to all tyrants. Amen.

How do we know which parts of the Bible are for today and which parts were just for the time of their writing? Easy, if I like them they're for today and if I don't then they were just for the people in their time. #exvangelical

After 20 years of forced labor, Solomon held a festival complete with all the mutton and beef you could eat. It's the bronze-age equivalent of pizza parties for a good quarter.

For Christ's Passion must be dealt with not in words and show but in our lives and truth... We have changed the essence into a mere show, and painted the meditation of Christ's sufferings only in letters and on walls. --Martin Luther

It hasn't gotten better in 500 years.

Solomon built the temple in his back yard the way people might build a pond or fountain. At dinner parties he could show people that he had a granny unit for YHWH complete with priests and sacrifices.

It's easy to think that older is better but Herod's temple dwarfs the size of Solomon's temple probably reflecting the increased importance of the temple to the people and better building technology.

Solomon spends nearly twice as much time building his own house as building the house of the Lord. He would have fit right in with the televangelists.

Christians pay millions of dollars to send shoe boxes to kids in foreign countries but they'll spend billions to build walls to keep them out. #exvangelical

Fundamentalists get to ignore all the parts of the Bible they don't like by claiming those aren't "fundamental". I remember a sermon that because Jesus said the poor would always be with us, we didn't need to feed them. #exvangelical

Everyone talks about the wisdom of Solomon, but who remembers that his wisdom was mostly just that he wrote songs and riddles and knew cool animal facts? Apparently there's a tradition that he could speak to animals. Solomon is a furry confirmed?

As soon as people wanted to see practical freedom from slavery and from their husbands someone claiming to be the Apostle Peter put the kibosh on that. In the same way Christians today try to oppose other people's freedoms by over-spiritualizing the gospel.

There's no known place in the Hebrew Testament where the Messiah is supposed to be a Nazarene, but Matthew didn't let that stop him from claiming that Jesus being from Nazareth is totally expected, actually. (Mt 2:23)
