I'm with you on mayor, but what abt other govt salaries? Working in NYC govt I took a 1/3 pay cut from... working for the federal govt. I then got a 50% raise to work in philanthropy. Low line-govt-worker salaries devalue meaningful work and block a ladder to more representative future leadership.

It's OK, indeed inevitable, that we have distinct views of where the lines are, what conduct crosses them, the significance of any individual action, etc What's essential is that we uphold the notion that there are some standards, and we're watching to see if govt attorneys uphold them.
