Oh and also, don't forget to bring a letter of introduction from your advisor or similar, in case it is a special item with restrictions. It basically needs to confirm your research credentials (there should be details on the BL site). I once had to wait a whole day for a faxed one from Australia!

Registration shouldn't be more hassle than usual as long as you bring ID. But it could be worth contacting them ahead of time to see if the ms is available. Last time I visited "select" items were not accessible.

Yep. At some point most elected Dems (and left politicians outside USA) seem to have internalised a message that 'mature and responsible' government = compromise, and they default to this even in extremis.
