Dual service veteran, mom to three brilliant kids, and math nerd. I help middle schoolers realize they’re math people, too!
I love when my students use the strategies I teach them and achieve academic success! No tricks, just solid strategies to miss the common mistakes students make like sign or integer errors. Math doesn’t have to be scary for middle schoolers. And, neatness counts!!!

I got a call from KFHS today asking if I’d like to have my daughter Sydney’s valedictorian plaque, and to see the new display. I’m still so proud of my girl!

As another school year comes to a close, notes like this help me remember my why. Teaching math to middle schoolers is its own beast, but year after year we get the job done. With all the noise about education out there, I know that every child can learn. I prove that year after year!💕

Graduation weekend was busy with three ceremonies and tons of walking. Brooke graduated as a UVA Echol’s Scholar with a Double Major in Global Public Health and Medical Anthropology, Ethics and Care, with a minor in Women’s Studies. I can’t wait to see how she changes the world!😍

Go Sydney! SPS creates achievers! 2023 KFHS Valedictorian, full academic scholarship recipient to Honors Carolina, UNC Chapel Hill, and now studying abroad in Spain this summer. Change the world, sweet girl! We need it! Excellence is a habit!

Congratulations to my sweet girl on her admission to the Master of Public Health program at the University of Virginia! I can’t believe how fast graduation for her UVA undergrad is arriving! She’s doing the 4+1 program, so she will have her Master’s in one year!

Today is my daughter’s 20th birthday. Today, I also told her that her childhood friend passed away last night. The fab 5, as I used to call them, did everything together. When we moved, they remained close for years. Hug your kids a bit tighter tonight. Tomorrow isn’t promised. Rest easy, sweetheart

In my 8 years in the classroom, my biggest impacts have never been about the math. Sure, my students do well because I do my job well, but they will remember me for caring about the whole student. I buy food, clothing, backpacks, memorial garden stones, hair products, etc. I simply care for them!

I had a thought. I wondered why God would allow Trump to win. Perhaps the only way Trumpism dies is for people to see for themselves they’ve been sold a bill of goods. When the economy isn’t better, and life in general becomes harder and toxicity grows, maybe then folks will make a different choice.

It’s interesting that the folks who decry DEI hires as less qualified and undeserving of opportunities are the same who welcome mediocre to subpar cabinet picks where their only qualifications are sycophantic adoration and fealty to Trump. Make it make sense!

I love the political discourse, but I miss regular conversations, too! I want politics to be boring again. I don’t want it to take up so much bandwidth. I’m looking for the helpers, and those who inspire and encourage. Know any folks like that?

My daughters, one a sophomore at UNC Chapel Hill, the other a fourth year at UVA, will be part of the change needed for the future. They’re wicked smart, hard working, and have character to boot! I raised a future attorney, and epidemiologist and world changers…my girls!

Hey everyone, just getting the lay of the land. I had to leave the toxicity of the other site. The next four years will be wild enough without the added stress. I deactivated my account on a whim, so no transfers. I’m a believer that starting fresh can be great! Here goes!
