This movie tackles the much stranger angle of nuclear terrorism that also becomes a wider portrait of generational ennui in the wake of the 60s radical movements collapse. its funny and a bit overlong at times but ultimately every bit as terrifying because, well, nuclear annihilation is terrifying

With oppenheimer being The Atom Bomb movie id like to humbly recommend the underseen 1979 The Man Who Stole The Sun by hasegawa kazuhiko, about a high school teacher who blackmails tokyo with his homemade atomic bomb, complete with an uninterrupted 30 minute sequence where he actually builds it

Anyway i would highly recommend watching mambétys most popular work, touki bouki (1973), a film very high on my personal canon and whose energetic, furious storytelling and political concerns have somehow remained timeless

This was fortunately restored by metrograph in 2018, but the state of film preservation in senegal and africa in general is still pretty rough. from what ive seen so far, this is the best version of camp de thiaroye, released 4 years earlier, by ousmane sembene currently available
