Makes what feels at times likes an intense outpouring of effort feel a bit... pointless.

I felt the need last night to do poetry (updated):
Trump's America I'm living in a country That is not the one I thought All our shared beliefs and values - It seems half of us forgot I didn't see it coming And I don't quite understand I believed we'd come together When shit finally hit the fan I thought they had been lied to And that finally they'd concede When reality show clearly The deception in their feed I suppose that I believed That for the most part, we were good That we believed in our democracy And would fight for what we should I thought rooting for the little guy Was just the thing we do - That we stand strong beside our allies Who fight for their country too I believed the great majority Thought of more than just themselves When our way of life were threatened We would rise up and rebel Perhaps I was the person living In a world that was untrue - The most cogent explanation For my feelings on this coup Disbelief and disappoint A deep sadness - sometimes rage I struggle for acceptance And I try not to engage Every moment of serenity Is met with the absurd An assault on my morality With every fucking word They say empathy's an illness And that helping those in need Is solely based in hubris An expression of our greed They believe that any person's worth Can be summed up by their bank - That “deservingness” of others Is defined by social rank Their ideal of a society Demands no sacrifice God forbid the spare a dime For those tread on by life And speaking of religion - They make this taliban seem mild As they push their own religion On every woman every child Embracing the autocracy So that they can get their way They ignore their own hypocrisy And the things they're god would say It's a small price that they pay As they watch their country burn If it lets them feel triumphant As they “own the libs” in turn Meanwhile all of the weckage And the hurt and harm they cause Seems not to be significant Or give them thought or pause They react to causing others pain In a way that's frankly gl…

The executive branch is the President, Vice President, Cabinet, and agencies such as: Federal agencies (e.g., FDA, EPA, IRS) Administrations (e.g., Social Security, NASA) Departments (e.g., State, Defense, Justice) Commissions (e.g., FTC, SEC) What's Happening? A recent executive order gives the President and Attorney General the power to interpret laws within the executive branch. This means they can decide how to enforce laws without oversight from Congress or the Judiciary. Can You Give an Example? Imagine a local animal control ordinance that says, "All pets must be licensed." The executive branch, led by the Mayor (similar to the President), is responsible for enforcing this ordinance. However, the Mayor decides to issue a directive to the animal control officers (similar to federal agencies) that says: "When we say ‘all pets,’ we only mean dogs. Cats, birds, and other pets are exempt." This means that the Mayor’s interpretation of the ordinance becomes the rule, without input from the City Council (similar to Congress) or the Judiciary. That's Essentially What's Happening Here: The President and Attorney General are being given the power to interpret laws within the executive branch, without oversight from Congress or the Judiciary. This undermines the system of checks and balances and threatens the rule of law. Why is This a Problem? Removes Checks and Balances: The executive branch is supposed to be checked by the judicial and legislative branches. This order undermines that system. Concentrates Power: The President and Attorney General have too much power to shape laws without accountability. Threatens the Rule of Law: If the executive branch can interpret laws without oversight, it can lead to arbitrary and unfair enforcement. Scholars say that only three point five percent of the population needs to be in the streets sustained protests in order to bring down even the most corruptive governments.

I got tired of watching the news and for some reason decided to read Project 2025 ...

I've followed @altnps.bsky.social since the last Trump 1.0, and I've grown really fond of and proud of all my fellow Americans at the #Altgov in the last few weeks.

This passage has me fuming!
Many of these laws and regulations governing a largely underworked, over- compensated, and unaccountable federal civilian workforce are so irrational that they would be comical in a less important context. This is true whether it comes to evaluating employees’ performance or hiring new employees. Only in the federal government could an applicant in the hiring process be sent to the front of the line because of a “history of drug addiction” or “alcoholism,” or due to “morbid obesity,” “irritable bowel syndrome,” or a “psychiatric disorder.” The next Admin- istration should insist that the federal government’s hiring, evaluation, retention, and compensation practices benefit taxpayers, rather than benefiting the lowest rung of the federal workforce.
