Me watching The Last of Us last night. But honestly, could be applied to anything that has happened in America in the last 90 days.

Take a break from the dumpster fire/apocalypse/end of democracy and read a zine...?

My friend Camille produced this beautifully designed, “whip-smart little zine” called Know-It-All. I contributed a piece on the thing I know the most about—what else but Anna May Wong. substack.com/home/post/p-...

Amused that this guy thinks the title of my book — NOT YOUR CHINA DOLL — is “horribly devisive.”

But why is it divisive . . . Because you realized Anna May Wong is not your personal China doll? Nor is any Asian woman?

Tried to attend an information session on National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowships today. Silly me.

Census.gov has been totally wiped. Information I was looking at just days ago about demographics from the 2020 Census has disappeared.

I feel good about how I spent Jan. 20: watching an anti-Nazi themed marathon of Indiana Jones films & catching up with a good friend. Little kid @kehuyquan.bsky.social can brighten any day.

This year PAVEMENT BUTTERFLY 🦋 (1929), one of Anna May Wong’s best performances and her last silent film, enters the public domain. Screen a beautifully restored version of it on YouTube here: youtu.be/mAZNJmcS09U?...

Another thing to be outraged about. Another Asian woman silenced and written out of popular history. Thanks to @merrillmarkoe.bsky.social for digging this up! open.substack.com/pub/merrillm...

Yunte Huang, a man who made up stuff in his biography of Anna May Wong, is being platformed by Biographers International at their upcoming Bio Lab in January. The news is disappointing but not surprising. A thread. (1/10)

I first learned about Anna May Wong 20 years ago as a college intern at the Chinese American Museum of Los Angeles when I saw this photograph. In it, AMW sits in a convertible alongside L.A. Mayor Fletcher Bowron & Chinese Consul T. K. Chang at the 1941 Moon Festival. It left an indelible mark.

The book is currently nominated for the Goodreads Choice Awards in History & Biography! Fun fact: I’m the only Asian American author in the category and the only person writing primarily about an Asian American subject. You can vote for it here: bit.ly/4fpUYY8
