hello everyone!! been thinking on this big decision for a while and have decided that it's time for the next chapter in my life 💗
text reading: "hello, reese here! hope you're doing well and enjoying the weather wherever you are. i just wanted to give a little update regarding "kayochins" going forward. this last year has had a lot of highs and lows for me as far as my art career. i got to table at over a dozen events, meet new people, and experiment with some new stuff! unfortunately, like every small artist has been experiencing, i've had a significant decrease in revenue. last year it reached the point where i had to get a part-time job in order to keep myself afloat. however, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise - i've found real purpose in working at a public library! i love seeing the kids so excited to be there, and helping patrons use the resources we have available." text reading: "with that, i have also realized i want to go back to school and become a full-time librarian, which means stepping back as a working artist. i've been running "kayochins" since i was 17, and have had a lot of fun doing it! i'm so grateful for the support over these 8 years, and that people have enjoyed my work as i've grown from a teenager making voltron fanmerch to an art school grad making cat stuff! realistically, as a young person in the united states (that continues to lean in a scary direction), i need a career that provides financial stability, health insurance for my medications and therapy, and the means to cover financial emergencies without needing a flash sale." text reading: "so what does this mean regarding my online store and vending? 1. all plushes and other fanmerch will be on permanent clearance until i've sold out. 2. i have commitments to des moines con 2025, galaxycon des moines 2025, and a few other shows pending confirmation. i'll still be selling original work at wholesale destinations and local events (such as pride). after those, i have no plans of tabling at future conventions. 3. my online store will remain up as long as there is inventory to sell! there are still a few more things i would like to make, but they will be small batches and simple things like stationery or apparel." text reading: "this does not mean i'm giving up art!! i've been fighting through artistic burnout since my senior year of art school, and this might be the perfect opportunity to heal my relationship with art by removing the pressure of it being my main source of income. i also won't be deleting my social media! i've made so many lovely friends online and the internet has been a huge part of my life and upbringing. you'll just see me talking about books and library happenings a little more!
