A little something I wrote for the Bluesky community.
Beyond the Rose Colored Glasses: For me, it was the beginning of middle school when my childhood rose colored glasses finally fell off. The world wasn’t following the golden rule of, “treat others as you want to be treated”, but following a doctrine of every person for themselves. I couldn’t fathom why anyone would care what another person did if they weren’t harming anyone else. Why gay marriage was banned, or why women’s healthcare was so poor. Why everything was so unequal and unbalanced. What skin color, race, or religion had to do with whether or not we all followed the golden rule. Despite becoming desensitized to the inequities of this world, I still find myself struggling to comprehend the true extent of greed and corruption so prevalent in today’s society. It’s a relief to find others who feel the same, who want nothing more than peace and prosperity for themselves and their fellow beings. Looking back, I realize that losing those rose colored glasses gave me a deeper understanding of the world’s complexities. It also forged a passion to hold onto those ideals of my youth; to strive for a world where every person is treated with dignity, respect, empathy, and kindness.
