This week on Nice Genes! Pod we’re talking about the gut. 🧪

Dr. Lawrence Goodridge @onehealthuofg.bsky.social takes us through the bacteria that can make us sick but also how these bad actors are the minority among a diversity of microbes in and on us. 🦠

The kind of hard hitting science quote you really want to build your career around ⬇️🤣

But we really do need better data to track all of these garbage bag rats. 🧪

It was standing room only at today's Living with Long Covid exhibit at the @museumofvan.bsky.social!

Today we launched the Living with Long COVID exhibition @museumofvan.bsky.social. In 2023 we conducted a study in which we heard from longhaulers that this invisible illness needs more awareness and attention. This exhibition was co-created with longhaulers to do just that. On view until March 2026
A new exhibition at the @museumofvan.bsky.social, co-produced by FHS, invites visitors into the often-invisible world of those living with the life-altering effects of COVID-19.

The exhibit runs from Oct 4, 2025 to March 22, 2026

First rat pub announcement on this app 🧪 🐀 🧬

We found that rats in Vancouver carry Hepatitis E Virus and that viral lineages are clustered on either side of a major roadway.

Ratty relationships (family groups) also helped to explain HEV status.

Every year at #WDA2024 there’s a silent + live auction that raises money for activities/student awards. It’s a wild night (and my fave). This year I made two mugs (named “the spikey one” + “mug-a-RAM-a”) that went for way more $$ than I expected. So stay tuned for #WDA2025 - we’ve got some ideas!
