I got a sticker from the train conductor today 👌🏻

I would like everyone to guess which of these is a club banger and which is a soft R&B song

In the meantime, thank god it's a long weekend bc I need to lay around like this and do literally anything but think about these songs for a few days

Here’s some other random observations that I thought were fun/interesting:

I also adore how the ILLIT blurbs worked together and built on each other one by one! Good music criticism while also being really fun: they're one of my two favorite sets of blurbs, along with Girls Never Die

lol

I spent literally two-thirds of the year waiting for any song to come along that had the potential to unseat Magnetic as the winner, and it just never happened

It’s always so fun to see how the blurbs end up speaking to each other without the writers knowing, and my absolute favorite example this year was @thatchicksaywhat.bsky.social's Impossible blurb ending on the same quote that @nanagazer.bsky.social's starts with. So perfect!

I'm gonna postpone my usual commentary thread until tomorrow evening and combine it with the individual ballots: I definitely have a lot of thoughts to share on the final results, but I'm running out of steam today lol

I also really liked @annaklockwood.bsky.social's Cosmic blurb (esp the creative architecture metaphor and the ending, which accidentally segued perfectly into the end of today's post), and Mo’s take on repetition in Touch (which is not an easy song to write about, like water off a duck’s back)

My fav blurbs were the ones with a historical/social approach to their analysis, just b/c I think they're a great contribution critically—love the commentary from @irisxie.bsky.social on Black music influences + general genre blending in Supernatural, and Mo on Korean culture + globalization in APT

So many ties this year! The tie at #10 messes with the post setup a little bit, but I suppose a tie at #20 would have been even more inconvenient, so at least I dodged a bullet there (by literally 1 point).

Here's a chart of the rankings and points from where we left off at #12:

I wrote two very different blurbs about Halsey (my Amnesty pick) and Rebecca Black for TSJ yesterday 💀
