Our Lt. Gov. is spewing straight up racism here. It’s sad and disgusting (but not surprising) that he’s a pastor. Good for other faith leaders for calling him out on this disgusting rhetoric.

Faith leaders urge Braun to condemn Beckwith's remarks on Three-Fifths Compromise
After heated and emotional debate over Senate Bill 289, Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith took to X, where he called the Three-Fifths Compromise "a great move."

Michigan’s red flag law is saving lives.

In just one year, it’s helped stop potential school shootings, domestic violence, suicide, and more.

Now Republicans want to repeal it. I wrote about why we can’t let them. www.detroitnews.com/story/opinio...
McMorrow: Red flag law is saving lives
I will never forget the devastated parents I met with after the Oxford High School and Michigan State shootings. Their lives were shattered.

"Pope Francis skipped the Vatican’s official meeting with Vice President JD Vance Saturday, instead having his No. 2 give the vice president a lecture on compassion, according to a Vatican statement."
Pope Sends Deputy to Lecture Vance on Compassion at Vatican
Vance had an “an exchange of opinions” with Cardinal Pietro Parolin that touched on migration, the Vatican said.

No one saw the economic crisis coming in 2007.

No one knew the pandemic would hit our economy so hard in 2020.

It is absolutely insane to live in these totally expected and completely avoidable economic conditions of 2025.

Jim Banks is my senator. I didn’t vote for him but I know many who did. This is him spitting in their faces. He is classless and only cares about being in power, not actually serving. I wish people would vote him out but sadly, even after this, they won’t. Pathetic.

Russia kidnaps Ukrainian children and gives them to Russians to erase their heritage and demoralize Ukraine. Over 20,000 so far. And the US just stopped helping track these kids and likely deleted the database of all the research. Pure evil, right maga?

I’m reading Combatting Cult Mind Control by Dr. Steve Hassan. In the first chapter, he’s explaining the Unification Church, (aka the “Moonies”), a cult he was in. This paragraph, particularly the highlighted part, caught my eye because it sounds like every single Christian nationalist that I know.

@jtbrown442.bsky.social and I were just talking about how many women have come forward to accuse Ravens kicker Justin Tucker of sexual assault. My husband’s quote: “Man, If any more come forward, he’s going to be put in charge of the President Physical Fitness program!”

I read a post over on Facebook about why it seems Evangelicals do not seem phased by people dying due to the recent cuts to USAID and other programs that help the poor. So many Christians are being numb to the destruction and as an #exvangelical, I have thoughts on why 🧵

I began my exodus from organized religion in 2012 and cemented that decision in 2016 when Trump was elected. So admittedly, I haven’t delved too much into Scriptures for a while. But damn, wouldn’t you know that these Christian Nationalists out there have me brushing up on my Bible school lessons!

Fluffy approves of the sticker I chose as my bookmark for this next read. I finished “Cultish: The Language of Fanaticism” last night and highly recommend it- especially now!

Scientology sounds a lot like the Fundamentalist Baptist Church I grew up in. “Don’t trust the media, they’re biased against our religion. Don’t talk to those who left, their hearts have been hardened. Only we know the real truth of who God is-other religions are false prophets.”

“The first key element of cultish language? Creating an us-versus-them dichotomy. Totalitarian leaders can’t hope to gain or maintain power without using language to fill a psychological schism between their followers and everyone else.” Sound familiar? (Cultish: The Language of Fanaticism pg 78-79)

I read this passage last night from “Cultish: The Language of Fanaticism” by Amanda Montell. It made me better understand why “They’re eating the cats. They’re eating the dogs” was an effective campaign for the current administration. 😞 How we speak about others absolutely matters.

I have to admit that I have not read a book cover to cover in ages (we’re talking years). I used to be a very avid reader but life became very busy and I just stopped reading. This year, I decided to get 2 books on my want list- they seemed pretty appropriate given the world right now.

My first Bluesky post, yay me! 😂. My husband and I have a Kentucky Derby themed fundraiser Saturday night and ladies are encouraged to wear derby style hats. So, with a bit of Dollar Tree velvet yarn and an Aldi floppy sun hat, I now have a new derby hat!
