This is Alamelu Mangai Thayarammal. On this day in 1916—over a 100 years ago—she was the only woman to participate in a meeting of the South Indian Liberation Federation against Brahmin hegemony. The SILF would later be called the Justice Party and much later pave the way for the Dravidian movement.
