Shooing away the doom and gloom by visiting post-apocalyptic America, WWII theaters of operations, and Mongolia. With me are the Cerberus crew, dinosaurs, an SS she-wolf, Aleister Crowley, a mad emperor, Chinese river pirates, 5 tough bastards stealing Hitler's train, and the sexy Gun Honey.

Feeling a lot of helpless rage at the state of the world right now, so re-acquainting myself with Michael McGill and Spider Jerusalem.

Thank Fuck, and James Gunn, and (never thought I'd say this) David Zaslav that the new Superman movie ISN'T Man of "Supes breaking Zod's neck" Steel. I like Zack Snyder but I think MoS was a Snyder movie not a comic book movie and certainly not a Superman movie.

I'm sure the papal frontrunners are all swell guys, but I'm very hurt that Brother Diaz isn't even considered. What do you think, @joeabercrombie.com?
Anyway, eagerly waiting for THE DEVILS to drop into my Kindle on 6 May.

Found out today that Nick Santora, showrunner of REACHER, is a thriller novelist too. Added FIFTEEN DIGITS, his latest, to the TBR. Gonna dive in as soon I kick this fucking flu's ass.

May 2025 is going to be a great month for the "bastards-come-together-to-defeat-even-bigger-bastards" genre of fantasy. @decastell.bsky.social's THE MALEVOLENT EIGHT and @joeabercrombie.com's THE DEVILS are both releasing in May.

Starting a re-read of one of my most favorite Nick Carter Killmaster novels: THE INCA DEATH SQUAD. Written by the incomparable Martin Cruz Smith, this book sees Carter reluctantly chaperoning a disgusting Soviet official whose assassination would be the signal for a ChiCom insurgency in Chile.

Been in a funk lately, thanks to personal and work-related problems. Couldn't concentrate on reading or writing. Picked up Paul Erdman's seminal financial thriller THE BILLION DOLLAR SURE THING, winner of the Best First Novel Edgar, today. Loving it. Hope the funk dissipates soon.

What if Bond's Q was a CIA agent specializing in Unusual Killing Devices (UKDs)? What if he had a KGB counterpart? What if they both wanted out, and the only way out was to kill each other's superiors? The answers to these "What ifs" lie in the extremely enjoyable Mancuso & Borgneff series.

In the foreword to THE LOSERS: BOOK TWO, Ian Rankin talks of @andydiggle.bsky.social's anger at "all the world's corruption and bullswagger". His characters are horrified and disgusted by P2OG and PAM - harebrained, dangerous schemes cooked up by wonks during the heyday of the War on Terror.
