Tomorrow, my autistic son is turning 21.
We are going on an overnight trip to his favorite place to do his favorite things. He is super excited and is going to have a great day. In the end, that’s all that really matters. Not having friends or a big party.
His day, his way.

Did he drop his popcorn and then start obsessively eating it off the theater floor? Yes. Did everyone in the CRAZY LONG concession line let me jump to the front to get a refill to stop this? Also yes.

He did not understand the plot, but he really enjoyed the singing and dancing. And the popcorn. He left happy. So this mom of a semi-verbal autistic kid gives Wicked a 10/10.

Today, I am grateful for movie theaters and movie theater employees who are giving us a fun activity to do on this rainy Thanksgiving.

Every Saturday, I take my son with autism to a local bakery where he orders 2 chocolate croissants. It is an important and much discussed routine at our house.
If supply is running low before we get there, they put 2 croissants aside for him. Not because I have ever asked. Just kindness.
