Hmm, I have never seen it or heard of it. Maybe in southern states? This is only the second time I've seen it at all.

Actually that is what the article says - it is sleet in the US, although sleet usually refers to a mix and not hard pellets. There is no linguistic distinction which is a bit weird, I admit. I was confused ahead because they said sleet at 18 degrees which is not possible.

No one uses that term. Look at all the major news stories about this most recent storm. They all say sleet.

It's that Americans do not have a word for falling ice pellets that are not what we call hail. It happens so seldom that there just is no word for it besides sleet. I am in my fifties and have only seen what we had yesterday twice in my life. Clear, small pellets of ice not a thing here.

I tell my students for 99% of human history 99% of humans had no access to writing or reading. Universal literacy is a very recent idea and ideal. It's a grand experiment that we don't always have a good understanding of, especially in education.

I know the research points otherwise, but I still believe in learning styles. I suspect they don't look at the right things. Like, a student who has an aural learning style might read out loud under their breath to hear the material, but that won't be counted in the research.

They are so great. You can also call them and give them a head's up.

I visited an advanced level high school physics class yesterday. About 25 boys, one girl. And she was only taking it because of scheduling issues. It was so depressing.

It is really rare. Often it is early retirees so they can look young. It provides a second full pension so it's popular.

She gets on my nerves every time, too. The crossing guards here have very strict, formal uniforms. And they are never 30 years old.

Lots of people need to eat meat, though. But few would absolutely require it at a conference.

I just read the Scarlet Letter with my class. SO many clauses. The German is easier!

This. I am so bothered by the veneration of science as a kind of religion. It's ahistorical and dangerous, as dangerous as this guy.
