Yes! I really appreciate the work of DMs but gaming shouldn't be so serious that everything else is secondary. As a player I respect the table and wouldn't be absent unless absolutely necessary

Thank you for your encouragement!! As a player I found it rather stressful that being sick and unable to attend had a negative impact. I planned my holidays this year so that I wasn't away too much, this also meant that my family had to be flexible. As you said it's a hobby, not your entire life.

It makes me think that players are not allowed to have a life. He never displayed any sympathy when someone was away because a family member was severly ill, he also tolerated asshole behavior from another player who was constantly rude. Perhaps it was better that I left the group like this...
