I was awarded the 2025 William E. and Mary B. Ritter Memorial Fellowship by @scrippsocean.bsky.social in La Jolla. It has been an absolute pleasure and privilege to spend the last two months in California, carrying out research and thinking about #oceanhist. #envhist scripps.ucsd.edu/about/awards...

Exciting morning in La Jolla, CA, today! We had an earthquake this morning, just after 10 am. The Shake Alert said magnitude 6.3 but it was later corrected to 5.2. #earthquake #sandiego

A Mist Connection is now available as a paperback for 24.95 Euro (it remains available open access as an eBook). Coincidentally it was a misty morning in Northern Germany today. www.degruyter.com/document/doi... #envhist #Laki1783 #volcano #iceland @degruyterbrill.bsky.social

Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of sharing some of my research on balloons and the Gaussberg volcano during the first German Antarctic Expedition aboard the Gauß (1901—1903) at the Alfred-Wegener-Institut, in their really beautiful lecture theater!
