This is a book-banning story from (pre-internet) decades ago, but: MAKING IT WITH MADEMOISELLE was a title that kept coming under attack, and it turned out to be a book of sewing patterns from Mademoiselle magazine. Sadly, book banners who don’t interact with the book are nothing new.

There was lots of arguing and yelling! People who gave great sound bites were often light on the facts. But yes, stuff kept moving forward, and I love how Sarah includes how mundane activism can be, eg stuffing envelopes. It was a movement everyone can learn from. I still miss my friends.

My guess is that the property on which those buildings are sitting — in the middle of big cities’ downtowns — is extremely valuable.

My daughter blew up as I was reading her Ramona the Pest: “She thinks she can do ANYTHING SHE WANTS!” We never finished it.
