Some autumnal trees I painted with watercolor to try out a new deer foot brush. (not made from deers.)
A small (5"x8") watercolor sketch of three Autumn trees standing in a row by color: yellow-and gold; red-and-orange; green with yellow and brown. The foliage is created in clusters of color with stippling of darker shades over the top with drier paint to create the illusion of individual leaves from a distance.

Finished stage of watercolor process for autumn leaves: 2 brightly-colored maple leaves, connected at the stems to the same small bit of twig. The leaves are rendered with multiple layers of yellow, green, vermillion/orange, madder red, and burnt umber paints to create deep, dramatic color, shadows where the edges of the dried leaves curl or fold over the body of the leaves, as well as details along veins, points, edges and body. The painting is signed at the lower right with a cursive "KatR" and named in the upper right "Autumn Leaf #2".

Part 1 of watercolor process set for autumn leaves: 2 dried maple leaves in faded green and yellow, joined at the stems to the same small piece of twig. They rest on a fabric cutting board above light pencil sketch of the leaves done on off-white 100% cotton watercolor paper. A blue 2H drawing pencil rests to the right of the paper. Part 2 of watercolor process set for autumn leaves: Yellow underpainting on the sketch of two dried maple leaves. Above the painting is an oval porcelain saucer with gold trim acting as a pallet with smudges of dark green, bright blue, sepia, yellow ocher, and red around the puddle of lemon yellow paint. Part 3 of watercolor process set for autumn leaves: two maple leaves, joined to a bit of common twig get a second layer of paint to block in areas of deeper yello, orange and green. The edge of the porcelain saucer/pallett and a half-pan of Organic Vermillion paint sit at the top of the shot. Stage 4 of watercolor process for autumn leaves: the left of two maple leaves, joined to the same small bit of twig, receives brighter layers of orange, deeper yellow, and red madder for detail and shadow where the edges of the leaf curl and fold.

Took Banjo for a walk today. So strange walking with only one dog.

This little idiot just flew into my office, saw the dogs, swerved... and banged smack into the window. I scooped him up on the nearest thing available, then put him out on the balcony rail. He is now sitting on the roof gutter, looking quite irate and wearing a bit of dog hair on his head.

Head and shoulders of Pia the Peacemaker, a heroic-sized wooden troll figure created of rough scrap lumber, branches, bark and other found natural materials by artist Thomas Dambo. Pia is androgenous and has a gentle smile and dark eyes that seem to sparkle thanks to the addition of two small steel screws. Her hair is made of tightly clustered, naturally twisty branches encrusted with moss and lichen and her body is shingled from across the shoulders, back, and chest with many different types and colors of natural scrap wood. She wears a necklace of clam and oyster shells with wood pendants, including a large tree knot at the center.

Drop something blue from your gallery
A bright blue "chariot" fixed seat on the vintage-style hand made carrousel in Albany OR. The bright blue sides of the seats are decorated with carved hibiscus blossoms painted hot pink, and gilded swags of stylized greenery. This is my dog Jack. He is 10 & has lymphoma. I'll be taking him to the vet again tonight for new Rx. We'll do what we can to make him comfortable for as long as he wants to stay with us. Isn't he a handsome fella?
