If anyone finds an image generator that can render "a horse wearing a steampunk gaz mask", please let me know. Results so far are not convincing.

This makes me think of the fatfonts.org project by by Miguel Nacenta, Uta Hinrichs, and Sheelagh Carpendale, where number's amount of bold is proportional to their value, allowing for readable heatmaps.
