Look who's lumped in with such an amazing group of writers! This is so exciting.

The shortlist will drop later this month. I'll see how that goes, but this is encouraging on its own.

Revising is hard. I had to cut - aka decide to remove in service of the larger story - a whole scene where my MC dolls up for a party she wants to attend only partially.

Title: Bibliodiverstiy - The Power of Globally Diverse Children's Books Europolitan Conference 2024 - Oct 25-27, Cologne, Germany The publishing pathways for children's books of the 21st century are increasingly diverse: from big publishers to small presses to self publishing, from hybrid to educational to mission-driven nonprofits. But whatever journey a book takes to reach its audience, one thing is certain: stories, especially those for children, remain harbingers of hope in challenging world. Alisha Niehaus Berger will discuss key aspects of new and traditional publishing pathways, highlight what we can learn today from how publishers have weathered hard economic times and new technologies in the past, and ultimately suggest what all of this might mean for the future of children’s books and their creators. Alisha is a senior editor and art director at NordSüd (NorthSouth) publishing. Her background is in children’s publishing at some of the big houses in New York: Simon & Schuster, Dorling Kindersley, and Penguin—where she was Senior Editor, Dial Books for Young Readers, and edited bestsellers and books that won the Newbery Honor, Stonewall Book Award, and Batchelder Award for Best Book in Translation. Before taking a year off to travel around the world, she revised the entire badge curriculum for the Girl Scouts' 100th anniversary as Executive Editor, Program Content. Berger graduated from Stanford University with a major in cultural and social anthropology and a minor in Creative Writing. In her off-hours, she is either doing yoga, trail running, working on her travel memoir and middle-grade novel, or reading oodles of picture books to her three-year-old son.
