If I know the students' work well, I skip around to read ones I suspect might be more interesting first, or use these as little treats along the way. That does leave a potentially uninteresting pile at the end, but my hope is that, by then, I'll be close enough to done that I'll just push through

I heard of a student who was accused of using AI and had their tutor send the professor an indignant email: "I'm so-and-sos tutor and I wrote the paper myself!"

My best guess is that the quiet group saw me doing my all to draw them out and felt bad about it, while the chatty group thought *they* made the class great.

I've had this dynamic a few times and then been shocked at the end of term when the group I thought hated the class gives me better evaluations than I one thought loved it.
