Someone should point out to him that streets, roads, and highways for cars are about as socialist as you get. But then, he probably thinks the pittance he pays for gas taxes actually funds road construction and maintenance.

Of the <300 homes, how many of them will be on the City’s tax rolls? And how long will it take them to repay the $3M?
Syracuse and Onondaga County should be supporting housing and community growth that is transit oriented, walkable, and bikeable. And not handing out subsidies to the well-heeled. 2/2

Low density, car dependent, high-amenity HOA development, looking for $3M subsidy from one of the highest-poverty cities in the country to pay for their sewer lines connection. (Also seeking sewer subsidy from Onondaga County for housing on Town of Onondaga portion.) 1/3

Okay. I'm finally convinced to stop eating raw cookie dough.

Every place pictured looks so boring. I imagine even their dogs are bored on their walks! In my neighborhood I ride my bike or walk to numerous shops and stores, restaurants, parks, along trails, etc. I wouldn't even want to walk or ride my bike in those neighborhoods. There's no place to go!

Living in Syracuse, NY I am reminded constantly. Fortunately, part of I-81 (North/South) in the city is in the process of being removed and rerouted. But we'll still have I-690 bisecting the city East/West.

I graduated from HS in the early 1970s, but I've never seen that. My US history teacher was the football coach, so I think I heard more about football than US history in that class. The painting's Manifest Destiny message is impossible to miss.

My sister lives in Star Valley (Afton), WY. Another beautiful part of Wyoming!

I'm a boomer. I ride my bike to visit friends & family, stores, library, downtown, etc. all the time. I would ride the bus but it comes every 80 minutes. It's faster to ride my bike anywhere in town. I grew up in Portland, riding the bus or my bike everywhere, and fighting the Mount Hood freeway.

What if we built so much housing near a bus line that now usually comes every 80 min. that it is able to come at least every 15 min? I live a 2 min. walk away from such a bus line. I don't know about my neighbors, but I would welcome more housing. #CentroSY410

Sure beats the typical bike parking here in Syracuse. This is in front of the Central Library, downtown Syracuse.

I would just walk on the sidewalk, not in that lane.

We had 2 sets of encyclopedias that I read. I loved going to the library with several sets of up-to-date encyclopedias and reading them. They've been replaced by Google. (Though I hate the AI.) When I'm teaching and students ask a question, we look it up on my phone and research it then and there.

Snow? Faster to ride/walk my bike to the store(s) (a few blocks away) than to clear off my car. Rain? Dress for it. Cold? Dress for it. Heat? Street trees where they exist & drink water. Too far to walk/ride my bike? Working for better public transit here; meanwhile, sometimes I do have to drive.

Public libraries have always been important to me. Now, as a teacher, I can't begin to tell you what an important resource they are for schools. I check out dozens & dozens of books & other materials every year for social studies, science, read-alouds, and summer day camp at the park.

And librarians are the BEST! Ask them anything and they will help you--with kindness and respect. I have so many examples over my many years (age 70 now) and ranging circumstances.

I think the cartoon should show the driver getting out of the car in order to push the button. That's closer to what I have to do when I'm on my bike and need to push the beg button.
