Recently i was reminded about China's Cultural Revolution, which happened in my teens & early 20s (mid 60s to the mid 70s). It was shocking, the bits that made it out to the world, and we hardly knew what to make of a society that rejected and persecuted academics & science with such fervor.
The youth bought into the Party line, seemingly with frightening ease and fiery passion. People turned on their fellow citizens with a zeal that seemed unnatural, echoing the Mao Zedong notion that exceptionalism was a crime & humble conformity was noble. Judgements were quick, brutal, and often carried out by the populace acting as if they were arms of the State.

It reminded me that we don't need to look a whole century back to the Hitler regime to see scary parallels with large nations that changed in previously unimaginable ways with a surprising quickness.

Then you say, "Badge number and serial number" because they are playing dumb. Start dialing emergency services. If they refuse two times, you call 911 and say, "there is a man here impersonating a cop and he has a gun."
Someone was assassinated by a fake cop. Time for ICE to stop hiding behind the masks. We need to learn who they are.

Throwing out a bunch of refrigerated food because of an 8-hour power outage... the hardest one, admittedly, is 2-dozen fresh eggs.
But food poisoning would be worse, so i am not complaining!

I highly recommend this book, and today seems a good time to do that.
The shameful ganging up on Zelenskyy by a well-rehearsed Oval Office mob was deeply upsetting. It was unAmerican, imo

I finished my Diego Rivera puzzle last night, helped (no doubt) by having the same scene on my mug.
Re the art: this is the north wall scene of Detroit Industry, a mural painted on the walls of an entire room at the Detroit Institute of Arts almost a century ago.
#GoSeeIt!!

This is Production and Manufacture of Engine and Transmission, the north wall section of Diego Rivera's mural, Detroit Industry. It features metal forges, production and assembly lines, research and development, all painted in a very busy montage of scenes that manages to avoid chaos.
The mural, painted onto the walls of an entire room at the Detroit Institute of Arts in 1932-33, is a tribute to the workers that helped propel America and the entire world into a future waiting to be shaped.

In seven decades of life, i've always had friends from all sides of an issue. It's only in the past decade or so that disagreements have become intolerably toxic.
I hate that. America used to thrive with & on a variety of viewpoints. I'm not sure how, but we need to get back to that!
