Yes, he survived. He was shot down over Occupied France, with the French Underground, captured by the Germans, a POW in Stalag Luft III, liberated by Patton’s Army and his youngest brother. Quite a story!

I was scheduled to fly in the navigator’s position on Texas Raiders the day after the plane and crew were lost. The flight had been a lifelong dream for me as my dad was a B-17 co-pilot that was shot down over Occupied France on Black Thursday, Oct.14, 1943.
