But in general, it worked for me. There was something tender about seeing Reeves and Winter, who I've seen on screen together since I was a kid, play men who are tied together by the passing (or not passing?) of time. Didi and Gogo, actors who grow up with us: mortal and frozen, simultaneously.

The one thing I wished was that the director had more faith in these performances, and in the audience's ability to feel and understand and care about them, without the sound effects and some of the lighting choices. The echoes, the ambient drones...we're already with you, mired in existentialism!

Thornton is maybe one of the best stage actors I've ever seen? I've caught him in two performances now (the other being the Daniel Craig Macbeth) and both times, he's been riveting. Lucky's monologue isn't easy! And his was dynamic and nonsensical and emotionally resonant, all at once.
