That was always my Dad's view. He was a lifelong Methodist and Liberal (later Lib Dem). Admired the Salvation Army, quite liked Catholics, but could never get past the Toryness of the CofE!

That wretched BBC live news thing hypes every news item it touches to the same frantic level, regardless of actual importance, and in the process renders it almost unusable as an actual news source.

Rewatched Coco with 19 year old daughter when she was home from uni for the weekend. So underrated!

Very good point! Most of my snack stash for a recent long haul flight was nuts (duh! What was I thinking?) and then I couldn’t eat them because of a nut-allergic passenger. Totally my own fault, but lesson learned!

Russell’s son was a LibDem peer, and at one party conference was responsible for the best name drop I have heard - “and as my father said to Lenin …”

And it is the same people who would be screaming from the rooftops if the National Curriculum did not include Shakespeare. Essential for 14 year olds, but apparently pointless for young adults.

Employers hiring people illegally do not ask for proof of right to work, and they will not ask for digital ID if it is introduced. It will only be relevant to legal employment.

Absolutely no idea, but daughter's partner acquired a pizza oven this year, has embraced making his own pizzas from scratch and his hot honey n'duja is one of the best pizzas I have ever tasted.

In school in the 1970s. A level was 16th and 17th century British and European history. O level was 19th century British political history, and even there if the Empire was mentioned at all it was minimal. So 17th century Sweden yes, Empire no.

One of my favourites. I also recommend Falaise. Good castle, with fun interactive iPads. I may or may not have entertained myself there taking selfies with a digital Norman.

Congratulations! I had an unexpected late pregnancy (not concealed) long after we thought our family was complete. Our daughter is now a young adult and has been a constant joy to us all. I wish you as much happiness with Ray.

Not just Heathrow. I just saved £20 by using Flixbus instead of the Arlanda Express in Stockholm.

Not a tip for journeys, but along similar lines … I kept a shoebox filled with small toys and activities that they were only allowed if they were off school sick. Defused the under-the-weather whinging and boredom beautifully.

It would at least make me feel less of an idiot for paying to put a case into the hold on a flight next week, then deciding I only need to take my underseat sized backpack. Now wondering if I should put the small backpack in the hold just so I can feel I got my money's worth!
