I picked up this frame and mat at a thrift store and decided to paint a cute winter cardinal to go in it. This painting is currently up in the @paceartsia gallery—so look for it when you visit in the next month!

I have a lot of paintings that are "practice"—they didn't turn out how I hoped, or they were experiments.

When a lot of these practice canvases start stacking up, I like to start making a collage. Turning old art into something new is a great source of inspiration!

I bundled up this morning to go for a walk and picked up some lovely fall leaves to guide my inspiration today. Incorporating these natural elements into a new piece, and I have to say I'm pleased with how it's going so far.

Loess Hills in western Iowa contain the largest remaining swathes of prairie in Iowa. Native prairie grasses have deep roots that can reach down deep for water when it's hot and dry, and stay insulated in the freezing winter.

This painting is one of a series I created a few years ago to celebrate the beauty and history of the Loess Hills Natl Scenic Byway. The rain that fell on the plains filtered through the loess and, over millennia, created limestone. Isn't that beautiful?
