It may sound weird, but when my uncle died, the entire family decided not to tell my grandmother (who had dementia) for that very reason. We all thought it would just be too cruel to have to tell her over and over again that her son had died.

But it has never been any different. It's very interesting from a psychological perspective how people can be manipulated in such a seemingly obvious way.
