It's looking and feeling like winter here. One storm has passed, another one on its way.

On #WorldSnakeDay here's a beautiful and very sturdy, well-fed gopher snake in my Mojave Desert backyard.

Little mama hummingbird rocking in the high desert wind in her nest.

Front to back: Mojave rabbitbrush (it's everywhere), some kind of riotously blooming peppermint, and cattails.

Lots of peppermint of some kind. Probably escaped from herb patches I used to grow (and may begin again soon)

5 years ago I discovered our gray water runoff had facilitated the growth of a mini-marsh in the southern Mojave Desert. This year it's still growing. It's a bit smaller, we had some drought years and very warm, dry summers. I'm hoping it will sustain as long as I have some graywater out there.

The Joshua Tree in front is very old. It has suffered a lot of damage from drought and wind.

Got a short raven video for you. Hope you're feeling better!

Where I was on Mother's Day. It was HOT. Now in southern California, we've got cool and possibly stormy weather coming back. It won't last but I'm enjoying the cool down while it's here.

These people are horrible but really California is helping feed (literally and not so literally) the poorer states...

Looking like winter in the southwestern Mojave.

When they say, "be careful what you wish for." The temperature has dropped 30 degrees and something is blowing in, over the mountains. We're hoping for some rain.

Looking at the sky, seems like a weather change is on the way. Again!

A Mojave Desert sunset for you

A view of the Bridge Fire from my house in the western Mojave Desert. It's maybe 10 miles from Wrightwood.

I did. It's a really good outline of the stated goals of Project 2025. Some of this and more from the awful Heritage Foundation.

Happy Solstice to you Brooke from the Mojave!
