Shot from 1992 film Sneakers of The Fox theater in Oakland, California. The ornate 1920s art deco movie palace appears mostly abandoned except for stage lights on the top floor. Nearly completely destroyed by a common real estate management practice of demolition by neglect, the city of Oakland planned to tear down the building to construct more parking. But an angel investor and rag tag group of volunteers, donors, and developers worked together for a decade to restore the building and convert it to a live music performance venue that reopened to the public in 2009.

Best birthday gift ever was when friends organized a timed pre-party scavenger hunt in Oakland. We played on paper to keep it fair. No phones. Wish I still had a clean copy of the paper map. Only have a losing team's score card. Fun time had by all. Highly recommend

Maybe. Nothing compares to the Occupy years. The helicopters were constant. But it all varies by neighborhood. You can track the radar online. Fruitvale gets some of the worst daily OPD helicopter harassment.

One day, everyone will have always been against this. Remember the majority disapproved of MLK Jr in his day. Local Oakland hero Boots Riley ‪@bootsriley.bsky.social‬ shared these survey results form October 1966 over on the other app to remind Americans because forgetting is what we do best.
Tweet by Boots Riley states ' the optics are never gonna be good enough. The mainstream media will always have a problem with the pushback against fascism. These polls prove it. ' The image is a screenshot of survey reuslts published in The Washington Post. The surveys date back to 1966 and multiple questions ask whether key Civil Rights protests of the early 1960s helped or hurt social progress. In 1966, the vast majority of survey respondents disapproved of these Civil Rights protests including the famous March on Washington where Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his 'I have a dream' speech. By the 1980s MLK Jr's speech was taught in public schools and his birthday became a national holiday (some racist states like AZ did not observe until a decade later). Time and perspective is everything.
