HR is not your friend. Shady employers will fudge the # of workers when asked about FMLA & promptly fire you. It's wiser to already know the # of employees or have solid knowledge that a co-worker recently took FMLA for a pregnancy, illness or caregiving responsibility. Then file your FMLA papers.

If he works for a company with more than 50 employees in a 75-mile radius, he can use FMLA for an unpaid 12-week medical leave. It holds his job open for his return. Or a similar one at the same pay.

Look at the cumulative total earnings on his last paycheck. See if it's under the limit using MAGI. Or just apply. The state Medicaid app checks your income automatically.

Medicaid will cover in-patient psych, cataract surgeries, infusions and tooth removal.

Has he earned less than $21,600 (modified adjusted gross income) so far this year? If so, he's eligible for Medicaid.

After his psych stay, wasn’t a psychiatrist, NP or social worker assigned to follow up with him? This is the team to call on his behalf & ask about open beds at a suitable long-term facility. Alternatively, call the social worker at the place you stayed last year & ask how to secure a bed there.
