After firing 90% of IES staff, the @usedgov.bsky.social has reopened the same roles.

Source: "There are a lot of upset former staff talking about it. ... Those look like the same jobs" they were fired from.

There's a scam going around claiming you have traffic tickets and asking you to pay the NCDMV to avoid consequences. Look closely at the URL. That's fake. Be careful out there.

My @owasa-nc.bsky.social high water use notifications are basically when I'm doing laundry (I was out of town last week)

In my neck of the woods, the hat-stealing owl is back

My investigation showed these were not isolated incidents in Illinois. Dozens of Illinois hospitals had violated the Sexual Assault Survivors Emergency Treatment Act in the past five years.

The doctor told state investigators why he didn’t offer the 4-year-old girl an exam: “I cannot spend two hours in a room with one patient.”

The hospital was supposed to offer the forensic exam, and call someone to advocate for her. Instead, the doctor sent the girl home, a state investigation found.

I found hospitals that violated the law even when children had been assaulted.

Three years ago, a doctor in Jacksonville, Ill. refused to perform a forensic sexual assault exam on a 4-year-old girl, even after noting trauma to her vaginal area, and her telling him “my daddy touches me there.”

“The man who raped me is going to get away with it because I couldn’t get my rape kit done in enough time to get the proof that I needed,” she told me earlier this year through angry tears.

Cheryl Thompson was celebrating the New Year when she blacked out after a drink at the bar. She awoke hours later in near-freezing weather in her driveway. She later found pebbles, dirt and leaves inside her pants.

Happy #FOIAFriday. May your requests get assigned to the simple track

To folks who are visiting toxic family or are in uncomfortable situations this holiday season, just remember you don't have to be there.
December 24, 2023 at 5:52 PM
Happy #FOIAFriday. You know what that means: I go through my list of overdue records requests and give agencies a nudge if I haven't heard from them. notiFOIA's automated emails makes this task so much easier.
November 17, 2023 at 4:07 PM
Hey, it wasn't a FOIA denial at least.

When you're trying to crack a PDF to Excel, and Tabula, Pinpoint, Cometdocs and Excel's "import data from PDF" doesn't work, you can import a PICTURE of your data and it does a pretty fine job of recognizing the text.

After the IRE conference I decided I needed to organize my records requests in a sane way. I created notiFOIA, which emails me once a week if a records request is overdue. It's a great nudge to reconnect with agencies when we're looking for documents.

Coming soon:

notiFOIA: it emails you when your FOIA is overdue. Run out of a Google sheet. Without any programming knowledge necessary. #foiafriday
