A small viola flower with a deep purple center that fades out to white towards the edges of its petals. A single pansy flower (“Blue Velvet,” I think), with deep blue/purple colored petals. A climbing jasmine plant on a balcony. The branches are entwined in the old white metal railing, and tons of tiny white flowers are blooming.

Dahlias from my garden in Illinois a couple of years ago.
Time to re-learn gardening in the Southeast.
Several blooms from a dahlia called “apricot lemonade,” I think. It has a neon yellow center and the petals become more pink the farther away from the center they are. Don’t remember the name of this dahlia, but I think it’s a cactus type. It’s a vivid magenta bloom. My hand is holding the flower towards the camera.

There were a lot of WTF moments in this NYT photo essay, but the one that is going to bother me (like, forever ever) is the woman who said she’d “gladly” give up any abortion rights she & her daughter have if it kept her son from going to war.

This Twitter post from someone named “Bernard Joy,” which is incredible by itself, but his post has 2 side-by-side photos from an Olympics shooting event. The one on the left is captioned “A Faulkner sentence,” and shows a competitor wearing lots of tactical gear and using a sight on the gun. The photo on the right is captioned “a Hemingway sentence,” and shows another competitor from Türkiye wearing a simple t-shirt (also says “Türkiye”) and warm up pants, with one hand in his pocket while he aims the gun without any extra gear or, indeed, without any great concern.

4/? And then there’s Don Juan, arguably the grown-up version (still ironic) of Childe Harold, commenting on life with trite “deep thoughts” that appear insightful. Byron’s actual life may not be a common experience, but we all certainly know a basic bitch (Don Juan) when we hear one. Brilliant.
